Electric Vehicles This really has our attention. We have been avidly following the development of electric vehicles for many years, waiting patiently for the development of battery packs and control systems that would move them beyond the status of hobby for the technically sophisticated owner/tinkerer and into the realm of really fun, usable and “affordable” for an average owner. Electric vehicles are appealing in so many ways. We believe we are on the verge of seeing the EV as the vehicle of choice for many applications, especially for a city runabout. Within the last year a rash of new entries in the electric motorcycle field have appeared. While some of them are little more than proof of concept prototypes, such as this year’s Isle of Mann TTGPX roadracers, other models, from dirt bikes to supermotos to budget commuters, are fully in production. However, being in a newly emerging field, the offerings are all over the map in terms if component quality, performance and after sales support. If you find the idea of an electric motorcycle interesting, let us know. Tell us what you would look for in such a rig. What it would take for you to seriously consider purchasing a new one; how would it have to perform, what kind of operating costs would be acceptable, what kind of features would it have to have, even what it might look like. Another very interesting idea is to take an existing motorcycle that you fancy and convert it to electric drive. In this way you get to choose a type of chassis, a body style, a riding position or other mechanical attributes that you like, have already become accustomed to, or currently own. The performance package can be tailored to meet your needs. Basin Motorcycle Works is actively engaged in exploring the world of electric vehicles, understanding the marketplace and the new vehicle offerings therein and also developing an expertise in the design and fabrication of converting gas powered motorcycles to electric drive. If you are also intrigued by the possibilities in this new variation on our favorite pastime, please let us know. Click here for links to other Electric Vehicle web sites |
